In 1565 kochten de kartuizerinnen een pand aan de huidige Kartuizerinnenstraat als refugehuis. In de 17de eeuw bouwden ze op dezelfde plaats een bescheiden klooster uit. Dat werd afgeschaft in 1796, in de 19de eeuw herbestemd als ziekenhuis en in 1893 tot OCMW-kantoor. De voormalige kapel van de kartuizerinnen werd vanaf 1893 gebruikt door de Militaire Kring en zou uitgroeien tot het Brugse oorlogsgedenkteken bij uitstek voor de slachtoffers van de twee wereldoorlogen. In 1926 werd er een crypte gebouwd ter herdenking van WO I, met het monument van August Nobels. Het klooster werd in 2002 beschermd als monument.

The young musicians of Les Salonnières met in Berlin at the University of the Arts in 2017 where they immediately connected through a fascination with the salon culture of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The communication of philosophical ideas through music, art, and poetry inspired them to create their own salon in Berlin. Liane Sadler, Sophie Longmuir, and Mirjam Münzel perform on historical instruments, presenting concerts which combine 18th and 19th century music with readings of literature from the period, and are often held in intimate settings surrounded by artworks. They strive for open and honest conversation, where the listeners and performers alike can experience a deeper understanding of the ideas presented by the music and literature. They also endeavour to celebrate the role of women in the salons of the 18th and early 19th centuries, which, in a time when intellectual spheres were traditionally dominated by men, allowed women greater freedom to express themselves both intellectually and creatively, and be at the forefront of cultural development.
